Wow, it seems I only have time to write for this blog when something bad happens. Remind me to post with good news more often!
Today we've had a power outage causing the Jinzora Server to power off. Our sites have been unavailable for the last couple of hours but are back online again. Thanks to Wim who spent his evening getting everything back online!
I'll ask Ross and Ben to post some good news about what they're up to with Jinzora!
Hi everyone,
Thank you very much for your patience with us!
As you might know, we've been working at our sites and servers for a very long time now. The last 2 years, we've tried and tested several options for our websites.
During this time, we've had some major setbacks, including a complete loss of our new sites, just before it was about to be released and a crashed hard drive, just last month.
But now, we finally solved 90% of the problems. We've moved to a new server for everything except the demos. Today, we've changed DNS to point to the new server, and released the new sites at the same time.
Jinzora.com and Jinzora.org both serve the primary Jinzora Website. Once we've fixed the last 10% of the technical difficulties, we'll be focusing on finishing the content of this site, since a lot of work is still to be done.
Jinzorahelp.com is the official home of the Jinzora Community. This is now your primary source of information (Wiki and upcoming documentation) and free support (Forums, Second Life, IRC etc.).
We hope to have outlined 2 sites that can now be filled with everything you'd like to know about Jinzora and can easily be expanded in the future. Feel free to browse around and let us know how you feel about it.
Thank you eZ Systems for providing the free and truly amazing CMS eZ Publish!
We should really integrate Jinzora into eZ Publish ASAP!
Besides eZ Systems, we'd also like to thank the numerous loyal fans that help out in several ways like the Forums and our Wiki, including people like Strebge and Quasimodo.
Stay tuned to this weblog for more updates!
Bad news for us! One of the hard drives that hosts the Live Demos broke down. This calls for some maintenance! Later today, we'll have to shut down one of the Jinzora servers.
The affected server is the one that hosts the Live Demos and the new sites, including Jinzorahelp.com. This means those sites won't be available for a few hours today.
Tomorrow, everything should be online again, except for the Live Demos. In the upcoming weekend, we'll be moving the new sites to another server. The Live Demos will be unavailable for a much longer period, pending our search for a new hoster.
Hopefully, we'll have more news this weekend. Please be patient if any of the sites should be unavailable for some time over the next couple of days.
I've been on a bit of a Jinzora-upper recently, and I just added a new feature!
The keywords searching is more advanced than before. It now supports queries like the following:
@play @album @genre alternative
Plays a random album from the 'alternative' genre.
@random @album @artist Jimmy
Randomizes a randomly chosen album by Jimmy Eat World.
@random @artist @genre rock
Randomizes an artist from the 'rock' genre.
This doesn't work with an tag-based backend, but I don't think many people use that anyways ;)
If you didn't know about the '@play' and '@random' search keywords already, this is a great time to try out one of my favorite features!
Just wanted to post a quick note to tell you Jinzora now supports VLC Media Player in Jukebox Mode.
VLC is our first fully cross-platform jukebox, relying on its own built-in HTTP interface!
Configuration is really easy and the plugin is very feature complete. VLC also supports video playback, but I have not tested this to see how well Jinzora will play along... Test away and be sure to post any issues you run across.
I recommend setting $jbArr[ID]['prefix'] = 'HTTP' to have Jinzora send Web Links. This makes configuration a breeze and provides better track information on your site.
The Jinzora Team is proud to announce the immediate release of Jinzora 2.7.5 'Obsidian'.
This build is mainly a maintenance release, addressing a few security issues, bugs and performance, and introducing a few new features.
This release marks the end of the Jinzora 2.x development cycle and the beginning of the 3.x cycle. While we aren't quite back to work at full speed, we are beginning our ramp up for 3.0.
We have lots planned for 3.0. We'll mainly be focusing on some interface clean up issues (namely much more use of 'AJAX') and performance. We're working on a new backend structure and are commited to making Jinzora as fast as it possibly can be.
The Jinzora Team is very pleased to announce the immediate availability of Jinzora 2.6 'Obsidian'.
The Obsidian build is the culmination of 3 years of development work and is the most feature complete, fastest, and most stable build of Jinzora ever.
We invite you to upgrade to version 2.6 as soon as possible, or if you haven't tried Jinzora in a while, download Obsidian and give it a try!
With the Obsidian release we also celebrate Jinzora's 3rd Birthday! It's hard for us to believe we've been working on Jinzora for that long. We hope you have as much fun using Jinzora as we do creating and supporting it.
